In this tenant fit-up project, we designed the interior of the library based on an open concept plan, taking advantage of the natural light coming through the floor to ceiling glazing along the Plains Road facade. The open floor plan accommodates book stacks for non-fiction and adult fiction, and provides for a children's section, reading nooks, computer stations, study carrels and information centre. Rooms that do not necessarily require natural light and a view to the outdoors, such as washrooms, server room, storage rooms, manager's office and program rooms, occupy the interior part of the floor area. Together, an open floor plan and expansive glazing create a fun and bright atmosphere for this public facility.
The barrier-free Library is designed to the City of London's 2006 Facility Accessibility Design Standards (FADS). While it was not the intent to pursue LEED Certification, a number of "Green" design practices and LEED principles were applied in the building's design and construction, such as a geothermal heating & cooling system
