This 10 storey, 103 unit design, accommodates a variety of living arrangements available for a wide range of residents, including both singles, couples and families. The units offered by City Housing Hamilton include a combination of one-bedroom to four-bedroom rental units.
Designed using Passive House principles, the team has paid particular attention to the building envelope and
mechanical systems by utilizing durable materials, high-quality insulation and highly energy efficient mechanical
systems. For example, a gravity wall system is utilized to heat and cool living spaces. These principles are central to achieving a high-performance building, with exceptional energy efficiency and superior thermal comfort. With an upfront investment in design and construction by the client, they hope to achieve an asset building that can be operated, economically into the future.
Exterior finishes of textured and patterned precast and prefinished metal siding, not only add durability but also
elegance to this contemporary façade; attempting to change the perceived image of social housing in Hamilton.
Floors and walls have been designed using concrete construction; with cast-in-place as well as pre-cast hollow core and solid core concrete planks.
The site’s landscape plan offers residents an exterior amenity area on the west side of the building, but the development is also located alongside a large community park; allowing tenants access to enjoy the neighbourhood recreational spaces found right in their own backyard.
Roxborough Park is part of a much larger community housing plan for the 5.52 hectare site near the Red Hill Valley Parkway that will serve a mixed range of incomes. Three apartment buildings, affordable homes, townhomes and social housing units form this City Council approved development plan.
